Clippard PE FAQs

Here are some FAQs that may help answer some of your questions about your child's PE program.

What does my child need to wear for PE?

First, the clothes need to be uniform approved according to the district standards.  Next, your child should wear clothes that allow them to be active.  Avoid skirts and dresses on PE days.  Also, shoes should be closed toe, athletic shoes.  Open toed shoes are not allowed for participation and boots are discouraged because of their weight and bulk.

How is my child graded in PE?

The Physical Education program at Clippard is designed for everyone to succeed.  The curriculum is personalized for students in a way that is developmentally appropriate for your child's age, gender, and skill level.  Your child is graded on their sportsmanship, attitude, behavior, and skill level using age appropriate assessments.

     About Mr. Neels

Hello! This is my sixth year at Clippard Elementary as the PE instructor.  I grew up here in Cape Girardeau where I attended Cape Central High School.  I played football and track in high school, and also played club soccer throughout my youth. I graduated from Southeast Missouri State with a degree in Physical Education before moving to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where I earned my Masters in Kinesiology.

I am married to the lovely Mrs. Lindsey Neels, a kindergarten teacher at Alma Schrader Elementary here in Cape.  Along with our dog, Gordon, we have the happiest family around. We love all forms of exercise and always find ways to spend time outdoors.  We love cooking and trying new foods.  Besides exercise and health, my other hobbies are reading, video games, watching football, hiking, and playing disc golf.

Professionally, I'm a very proud recipient of the Cape Chamber of Commerce's 2015 Educator of the Year Award.  I also serve as the K-6 PE department chair for Cape Schools as well as the Southeast District representative for the Missouri Association of PE, Recreation, and Dance.  Outside of Clippard, I'm an ACE certified group fitness instructor where I work with older athletes and adults.

Most of all, I love helping others find health and happiness through physical education.
